Writing has always been the most rewarding, and simultaneously challenging way to express the world in my mind. I say that it’s challenging due to the frequent occurrences of writer’s block, self-consciousness, or lack of inspiration. Many things have said hello and goodbye in my life so far. Love has given me fond memories, heartbreak has taught me how to put myself back together, and everything in between has been the free trial for adulthood. I’ve always had a lot to say, whether that be in offering advice, or needing an outlet for my feelings. This book acts as an ode to all of my trials and tribulations, and the lessons learned through it all. It is an ode to those who have yet to experience the same conflicts, and to those who have survived them. This selection of poetry came from the darkest moments in my life, so I will warn that this book doesn’t contain the happiest of poetry until its conclusion. My hope for readers who give these words a chance is that you find some solace in your own struggles. You are not alone, and you are most definitely not the only person who has been through circumstances such as yours. It will be better soon; I promise you the hurt won’t last forever. I hope that for those that read this, that they can find a peace of mind, and reassurance in the words I’ve written that come from the most honest place; from the advice waiting to be served in a free meal, to the stories that have made me who I am now.
